Software that can grown with your company!

I've been a customer for 15 years while our company has grown from 10 users/ $20M in revenue to 75 users and $100M in revenue and it still works great for us

Pros

Budget friendly, customizable, user friendly and responsive staff

Cons

Although it is customizable I do wish I could have more customization such as safeguards and approval processes for over budget items

ComputerEase - Accounting and Project Management

I've been working with ComputerEase for 18 years and it gets better with time. The software is solid and customer support and resources are great.

The software has moved from a server only based system to offering for server based or web-based usage and have added app-based options for field reporting, payroll and expense management.

Pros

I love ComputerEase for construction-based companies or companies with project-based costing. It provides both structure in reporting and accounting and the flexibility for each individual company to set up the cost system and reporting for the specific needs of their business.

General contractors will love the Subcontract module which allows you to link sub change orders to an owner change. It also allows you to limit billings and payments on a subcontract.

Subcontractors will love the labor module and unit based costing reports that are available.

Cons

Sometimes you have to get support involved to help building custom reports that you need - the good news is that support is very responsive.

Reasons for Choosing ComputerEase

Moved from QBO to ComputerEase to support business growth and provide robust job cost reporting and better subcontract management Moved from Explorer software to ComputerEase to provide better reporting and ability to administer to software.

Reasons for Switching to ComputerEase

ComputerEase provides the best value and when compared to other products. I provide fractional Controller/CFO services for growing companies and believe that the software a contractor selects is as important as the tools they use to get the job done. ComputerEase is a great option for growing companies moving from QBO and will continue to support their growth for a long time.

Cloud Base slow, glitchy, 2002's DOS key strokes!

Do not recommend if you have mid-large staff size and no one to set up primary module from the start of use. Just to out of date for what todays world technology has to offer.

Pros

Q-tools only - but half the battle was report creation when there were no templates to get started and not user friendly.

Cons

Cloud Base app or desktop slow, glitchy, 2002's DOS key strokes! No drilling into file from one place, you need to open 3 items to find 1item you need in job file - need collective data drill. No drag and drop. Very old school - team 5 in AR system, all staff must be out in order to update, post or clear in order not affect each other. Cloud printing pipeline takes 20 minutes to print 18 pages of separate invoices holding then in print que until what ever is holding it up. Not EDI based purchasing to keep up with vendor product catalogs.

Overall very happy with CE. Each year we continue to find more and more uses for the software and the add-ons.

Computerease Great Construction Accounting program

We have owned Computerease since we started business in 2006 with 3 employees. It has grown and continues to suit our needs and we are now a $170M company with 700 employees, almost 19 years in.

Pros

Ease of use. It's a great product that does everything we need, without being too complicated.

Cons

It needs open API to work with other programs. Or be cloud based, not just a program on a Citrix server.

Alternatives Considered

QuickBooks Desktop

Reasons for Switching to ComputerEase

Great product, ease of use, price mid point compared to others. there were others but they've all changed names now.

Satisfies Our Current Needs and Keeps Getting Better

It appears that there are continuous enhancements and improvements being made to the product both in new functionality and useability. Overall I am very happy with the product and my ability to make it work for our needs.

Pros

The application allows one to start using for the most basic functions easily and then continuously build out more complexity as needed. This is great for ease of implementation without needing to understand all of the functionality available prior to getting up and going.

Cons

The Q-Tools reporting tool should allow greater flexibility in customizing reports and provide the ability to map tables and create reports in addition to those that exist currently. Enhancements to allow more custom importing of data should also be available. Contacting ComputerEase support for any "custom" needs is very expensive and time consuming for even the most simple request.
Adding new modules requires a minimum purchase of training that I often find unnecessary and would rather not be forced to pay for allowing me more budget to spend on additional needs.

Experience with ComputerEase

Used to be the CFO of a large painting contractor. We used the software fairly extensively. Tried to use the Apps but the PMs didn't care for them and eventually killed them. As a result, we used other Apps for time, change orders, estimating, etc.

Pros

The accounting and job cost is excellent

Cons

Its platform is a little dated, the Apps are also dated. I think CE will lose market share if it doesn't upgrade its platform at some point. Although, that being said, most folks love it, especially accountants.

Not a Relational Database

Pros

ComputerEase seems to be one of the less expensive software options out there while still offering many optional features. There are multiple pre-built reports to see profitability, etc. We have not had any system "crashes".

Cons

ComputerEase is not a relational database - which if you are used to a relation database, the process of looking up or entering information will require more steps. The service module is a bit weak despite an upgrade in Spring 2017 (dispatch board lacking features, unable to easily view a work ticket once it has been completed, not easy to link to AP, time keeping app unable to view submitted entries without additionally logging into the online portal). The customer technical support is handled by a third party company that is divided into regions. The regional team supporting us seems short staffed at times.

Great Construction Software - Lacking HR component however

This software would be complete if it contained the HRIS component.

Pros

Job set up, tracking, tax reports, AP & AR systems ease of use, GL accounting system, contract/subcontract/p.o. templates and ease of payroll.

Cons

Lacking the HRIS component - Had to purchase a separate HRIS (Human Resource Information System) through BambooHR that our employees could log into to track their time off, for benefit enrollment and tracking and for supervisors/foreman to perform performance evaluations and post job openings.

Do not use this software if you can avoid it!

It's format is still DOS - like in the late 80's before we all switched to the windows format. All this software did was remove the use of the F1-10 keys and replace it with a double click. It shuts our printer down and locks it into an internal loop at which point we have to turn off the computer and the printer, wait - repower everything and try again. Ever so often it decides to print the payroll checks backwards and other inconvient things like that. I suppose it is better than no software and is also cheaper than the better written programs for this industry. I guess you get what you pay for.

Response from Deltek

We’re sorry you’ve been experiencing problems, Margaret. As for the problems you’ve been experiencing, they certainly sound unique. It appears to be a problem with the printer rather than your software. Either way, we are always eager to help in any way we can. Let’s get in touch and see if we can figure out what’s causing that issue.

We have to disagree with the assessment that our system is still in DOS format. We haven’t used anything close to DOS in decades. In fact, in the last couple of years we released a complete overhaul of our system’s user interface, adding custom workflow functionality with a lean, modern design. If you’d like, we can get together to show you some of the newer features. Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do for you.

User of ComputerEase since 2010

Pros

I like the accounting module for the most part. I mostly like the invoice approval process for its ease in processing payables approval and the ability to review contract or POs from the approval screen. The ability to customize access for each user is a plus.
ComputerEase can do a lot more with better training and better user manual

Cons

Customer Service is good
User manual needs improvement
Need to have a better check register
Even with Qtools, it is very difficult to get custom reports across various modules
Project Management Module - Document Control and Scheduling needs improvement. Scheduling module is very slow and doesn't work well with scheduling software

Cons
