Great software but tough market for it

Our company moved to Procore, and Procores VDC module came online while I was still trying to implement BIMTrack across the company. While the Procore VDC Model module is not as robust, it was part of the package, and we ended up cancelling with BIMTrack. I personally think BIMTrack is a better solution and if our company were on CMiC or some other solution for accounting and project management this would be easily a fantastic option.

Pros

Very user friendly, really helps bring everything together in Navisworks to help organize and implement VDC coordination procedures. The cost is also extremely competitive.

Cons

Its standalone for the most part, its integration with Procore was helpful but almost a little too late.

Alternatives Considered

Procore

Reasons for Switching to BIM Track

Unfortunately in the end we didn't. But that was a decision above my paygrade.

Response from BIM Track

Thanks for your response Charles. We are deepening our integration with Procore, so hopefully, this will assist your company in future

BIM Track Experience: Great software with big growth possibilities

Absolutely positive. We manage a 350.000 square meters project of a polifunctional area with many different type of building. We coordinate architects, structural engineers and MEP engineers with BIM Track. It's a really powerful software.

Pros

There are many pros. It's usable, well setted up, many filters to be able to catalogue every issue. Good viewer, fast and simple to use, also for our client with low skills. Also the team organization is well done, and the Revit and Navisworks Plug-in are what we need. Working on big project like we do, it's quite impossible to have the total control without this type of software.

Cons

Like everything in commerce, it could be upgraded a lot. I should upgrade the file tree system, the direct export of the issue in PDF instead only in BCF and Excel, and surely other small improvements to make the software perfect

Reasons for Switching to BIM Track

One of the engineers studio of our project team was already using BIM Track for their projects. So they bring us to know this software. This is how it started.

Effective and very needed application but too pricey.

I enjoyed the simplicity of its design and spartan functionality.

Pros

It's simple focus on creating and managing issues. No other distraction tools, workflows, or features.

Cons

The price. It is far too expensive for small firms such as ours to implement. As Detailers, we must communicate with many people on a single project and we run many small projects at a time. This quickly adds users that we simply cannot afford under your pricing structure.

Alternatives Considered

Bimsync Arena

Reasons for Switching to BIM Track

We didn't, it's far too expensive for a small operation like ours. We will continue to rely on screenshots and email and disconnected BCF file transfer.

Response from BIM Track

Hi Gary, we are sorry to hear you find the platform expensive, We try to price it competitively, along the lines of what you would pay for Netflix or Spotify per user.

Efficiency

One of the biggest issue that is helping to solve is the communication accross the poject. With BIM Track it's easier and more transparent which helps to all decision makers.

Pros

Because BIM Track works as a community tool to highlight and communicate issues and allows a more immediate interaction between authoring tools, what i really like the most is: instant collaboration, accessibility & transparency, reduce issue management time and software integration.

Cons

It should be improved the online viewer as well as having an offlne version.

Excellent User Friendly Coordination Facilitator!

Pros

It's really easy to use for all types of users. Especially like the integrations with design and coordination software. Audit-able trail of issues is useful. API and Power BI functionality is really promising, as are all the other feature built in and on the horizon.

Cons

Online viewer only accepts IFCs, which is limiting when working with manufacturers or subcontractors who don't model in compatible software solutions.
Solibri Sync-ing is still a work in progress.

Alternatives Considered

Reasons for Switching to BIM Track

Good Cost to Features balance, easy to use, we didn't need to be limited in how we used the platform. Works well with our workflows and connects with many of the most common tools our teams use such as the Autodesk Suite, Tekla etc.

Track your issue with BIM track

We raise and update an Bim coordination issue with it service and client itself. We can get the update on this issue with vis mail notification or in direct Navisworks.
We can maintain our speed with other services in coordination and make it simple and real time Coordination.

Pros

We can track bour coordination issue with live Navisworks file with integrating with Navisworks.
We can raise the issue with this software.
Also we can update any issues with the coordination to our clients and in between the teams.

Cons

The software charges is slightly high and I think this should always integrated with Navisworks.
The charges may not be extra and give it free with Navisworks.

Review of software BIM Track

It has helped keep a running log of overall project concerns and issues. You can flag something while running through then come back later to explore that topic.

Pros

Being able to add on the fly issues is great from all Auto desk platforms.

Cons

Grouping clashes in an effective manner. Isolating out elements to create Issues could be more automated.

Great tool for Coordination, but still needs work

Overall my experience have been good with customer service and product.

Pros

What I like most about this software is the ability to speed up coordination to all disciplines.

Cons

What I like least about the software is there are still tweaks that need to be done for a more efficient tool.

Great for tracking

Great!

Pros

Ease of use, visual graphics for reporting, good organization of teams and users to manage how much they can see and edit.

Cons

The first few months, the plug-ins were causing the applications to crash. Now it is more stable, and does not happen.
I would like to see more issues reporting techniques, for example reporting issues on a map, showing trends or progress by dates and issue counts.

BIM Track - Best Issue Management tool for BIM Coordination

Pros

The best feature I like about BIM Track is the ability to keep a track of the issue status with the clash status

Cons

Currently BIM Track doesn't allow us to use the Quick filter feature in the Clash Detective window. Using that it would be easier to push issues by further filtering them within clash detective.

BIMTrack is the best!!

We started using BIMTrack about a month ago, and it has changed how we track issues in coordination. The software is great with its ability to assign issues, priority and due dates to other trades.

Pros

The ability to swap between and issues using the Navisworks plugin

Cons

I wish I can change the status or priority of the issue from the navisworks plugin.

Response from BIM Track

Hi Steve, regarding your comment on the ability to modify status or priority from the navisworks add-in, you'll be happy to know that this feature will be available beginning of September with many other features.

BIM Track greatly improves the clash review process

Pros

- Ease of use
- Customer support
- Core features
- Clash grouping (the fact it's included within BIM Track already)
- Web interface

Cons

- Like many BIM applications out there, it's mainly buildings-focused and I'd love to see more infrastructure-aligned features in the future
- I'd like to see a timestamp being added to coordination model components (so you can review WHEN the file has been appended and/or created - even if that's basic Windows property)

No Roundtrip

We tried it with the MEP group for the UdM Pavillon des Sciences (maybe to far in the project) but dropped it. I haven't retried it since to see what has gotten better for the user experience.

Pros

The customer support is great!

Cons

The fact that there was no way of getting the status feedback from the clashspheres back into revit. They only reside inside of BIM Track. A roundtrip wasn't available.

Response from BIM Track

Hi Jonathan, the clashsphere generator isn't available yet but it will be implemented shortly. It's planned for September 2016. It will allow clashspheres to go from Revit to Navisworks to BIM Track's 3D viewer.
