Bringing back static sites

Pros

It takes a lot of effort to convince your clients that static sites are not dead and that their back in the game, I started with Netlify soon after I started developing sites with static sites generators like Hugo and Jekyll. The main problem with those generators is a CMS-like editing feature and the deployment of your changes.

Netlify has made it possible, they have their own CMS integrable with most of the static site generators and the deployment is a breeze, just connect your repository with Netlify and the site will deploy automatically for every commit. With that you have a CMS where your non-tech savvy clients can upload their content, an instant deploy and the speed and security of the static sites. Last but not least you can deploy every branch you a custom subdomain, branch.yourdomain.com for example. How cool is that!

Their build logs are really helpful to find what went wrong and their support was awesome, even on their free plan.

Cons

Overall I have no reals cons to say. It just does what it promises.

Incredible Solution for hosting Gatsby Built Static Sites

Pros

Netlify makes connecting the REST API for Wordpress to GatsbyJs stupid simple. It took me a matter of minutes to import my project from BitBucket and then add a webhook that would update the repository anytime a Wordpress post was updated. This relationship between these three technologies (Netlify, Gatsby, and Wordpress) is the golden trio that allows for our customers to use the familiar Wordpress backend to manage their posts and pages while not relying on an outdated technology for the front-end framework of their site.

Cons

The one negative I found was the pricing structure they had for simple integrations like contact forms. In my opinion, the pricing is unrealistic to charge for a simple service like email notifications or slack notifications.

Former leader now lagging

Great until the recent incidents.

Pros

It created the segment and is still easy to use for app deployment, static hosting, updates, Pull Request review apps.

Cons

There have been several recent incidents affecting the uptime of our sites on Netlify. For an edge CDN style host this is strange and unacceptable. Also custom sub-domains are limited to only a few and SSL certs are bundled.

Good tool for Web Developers

Netlify is a solid platform for static sites and frontend frameworks.

Pros

- Easy to set up
- Neat user interface
- Free Netlify domain
- Debugging logs
- Custom domains
- Github integration

Cons

If they removed the bandwidth limit(100GB per month), time limit(300 minutes) on uploads and made deployment faster, Netlify would be much better.

Amazing hosting tools for developers!

Pros

I love the easy deployment, the fact that I can also purchase and secure a domain with Netlify!
The form feature is also amazing, being able to easily receive inputs from my website with less lines of codes is just brilliant.

Cons

I feel Netlify would be a whole amazing if it became possible to host servers, at least NodeJs.

Genius, easy to use, smooth all around experience

Huge time saver in deploying (and being forced to learn how to construct!) static sites. It's set off a love affair in how to implement this technology in my consulting business with clients who definitely need things to be low maintenance.

Pros

The features available fully for even the free tier of their services are phenomenal. And the pricing for the pro features is SO reasonable, especially compared to traditional hosting (I use for headless CMS deployment and for testing purposes).

Also, I appreciate that the language they use is plain English and can really be understood by even the newest noobs.

Cons

I hate to even put anything for cons because the offering is so great. If I HAD to pick something, I would say have everything be free (including all pro features). That said, that's not necessarily a realistic expectation on my part, just wishful thinking. Honestly I wish I would've known about them sooner. Much cheaper and easier to use for a noob than for example Heroku which is still rad, just higher level of difficulty.

Ridiculous Simplicity

Netlify has been a revelation for me, gone are the days of trying to figure out how to set up SSL or how to configure my domain, it has taken all the pain of deploying static sites.

Pros

- Simple to use and get started
- Have a generous free tier
- Automatic deploys and builds from GitHub
- Free SSL certificates - how cool is that!
- Ability to add your own custom domain

Cons

- Nothing, there is nothing I don't like about Netlify, the ease of use and functionality together make it the best platform to run static sites.

Netlify allows you to build, version and deploy your website within the same tool.

Netlify allows you to build, version and deploy your website within the same tool.

The learning curve is reduced because you're using tools that as a web developer you already know. That's also why the documentation is simple and to the point since it is only guiding you to learn this specific tool.

Pros

Netlify allows you to connect with existing services such as Github, also it offers a free tier for small business and/or personal projects.

Their documentation is very concise and yet covers everything you need to know to launch using Netlify.

It also has an uncommon service to host media files directly on your Git repository using Git LFS, when typically other services send you to host somewhere else.

Cons

Probably that it's difficult to make a parallel comparison with creating your site without the aid of this software.

This is how hosting should be

Pros

The interface is very fast and intuitive, it's almost laughable effortless to set up a build chain compiling from a git branch and configure a custom domain. Take note hosting giants.

Cons

So far I have no cons I'm just filling this box because it's required.

Easy to set up and auto deploy based on branch in code source supports nice features like dns etc

Cons

Netlify is geate choice for frontend applications

I was using Netlify since 2 years ago and till now, my overall experience with Netlify is so good. And, In these two years, Netfliy added so many features and upgrades which made easily development process for everyone from beginners to professionals.

Pros

There are so many features in Netlify that I enjoy using like: Collab with the team/users, Custom domain, Auto-update/deploy and etc. And, I used most features of Netlify for my web applications on a daily basis which makes my apps always ready with updated pages. Also, Netlify smartly handles all my projects.

Cons

There is nothing that I don't like about Netlify but one thing that I want to point out is that the UI of the site can be improved. And, If Netlify can make an easy option for deploying server-side apps then that would be great. Other than that, I am happy and enjoying the feel of deploying static apps o Netlify!

Best Hosting app

Pros

The most interesting thing about Netlify is the way they help you to connect to different source code control apps like GitHub and GitLab so that you code can be deployed from their immediately.

Cons

Netlify tries to do everything as better as they can. But one thing they can improve is the way of showing errors to users. They have to give much details about an error.

Misleading web form with automatic plan change

Very bad and misleading feeling

Pros

Website build is ok but some build features not supported and need to adjust builds overtime which is not so good

Cons

Scam web form - after using their web forms for couple of months, they are flooded with spam bots then you reach the limit and they automatically change the plan and forcing you to add credit card - if you don't provide they will remove all your websites please be careful with it - and no spam prevention worked on this web forms

Best tool for fast web development

Overall had a great experience, would highly recommend.

Pros

The feature that I like the most is that It has features like pre-rendering, global CDN, and caching which make the website load quickly. This means that websites built with Netlify can give users a great experience without taking too much time to load.

Cons

Fast integration, overall great software to use for developers.

I cannot imagine using anything other than Netlify

With the right development flow, Netlify, along with its CMS, can allow you to go from blank page to a fully editable site in a matter of minutes

Pros

Netlify is honestly one of the best services I have ever used. It actually makes developing static sites an enjoyable experience. Automatic deploys, SSL, A/B tests, form handling, preview deploys, analytics, to name just a few of the features that I now take for granted

Cons

I suppose if you have a large team who need to access sites, or sites which have a very high bandwidth usage, the service could get costly, but the free tier is quite generous, and I have never needed to go into the paid tier. If this was ever needed, I would gladly do so

simple to use, robust set of features, careful on pricing

Pros

really like the set of of features that netlify is building out -- in that sense, comparable to Cloudflare and Vercel -- all are innovating

Cons

again, pricing structure for all of these is wonky - Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare, and none feel like properly designed for come grow with us

Incredible

I was sceptik since I could do most of what it does with a few clicks using Jetbrains Webstorm commercial version, but when I managed to git push and automatically see netlify make the build and deploy it, i was stunned!
Its really nice and Im so happy they have a free tier to start getting the hang of it.

Pros

impressive ease of use for the power it provides.
github linking.
build command automatically executed!!
url prettifying
free https

Cons

it was a bit of work to understand things that I'm not used to do (all server stuff)
but I think they made these things much easier to understand and do than if I tried to learn it all from scratch on another deploy system.

An amazing static website deployment experience

It's just so easy. I was shocked. Deployment for me has been a task frought with minutia in the past, this made everything simple.

Pros

Its free, deployment was as simple as pointing it at my github repository, then it just worked. Attach my domain name, point it to the netlify name servers wait an hour and then one click lets encrypt https support. Absolute magic.

Cons

The only thing that I can think of is that maybe one day I'll be so attached to them that a price increase (from the current free amount) will be a mandatory step. I can't see this being a big deal though, you can always move away.

Efficient build and deployment for Angular, React other front end web projects

Angular is a free platform for deploying websites and front end applications with a simplified deployment pipeline with github, gitlab and bitbucket

Pros

Integration with Github is great, allowing me to point Netlify to any of my public Github projects that are built and deployed on every push or merge to a specified build branch. Netlify is free for a single Github developer with enough build time and bandwidth for simple projects with so many active users.

Cons

There are problems with deployment of angular projects. Accessing an angular project from a route which is not the default breaks the app. The fix is not communicated when deploying and sometimes I forget to add the _redirects file until when I notice the break.

Go-to static site host

LOVE that I have a reliable service to host my statics sites with amazing speed for free

Pros

The ease of use to deploy static sites, and the loading speed that it provides via i’s CDN capabilities is amazing. And all that for free. ❤️

Cons

It is not as fully-featured as its competitors to support non-static sites, but I cant say that it’s exactly a bad thing because it might be a good thing for it to do one thing really well instead of doing too many things.

Quick and easy

Netlify was great. I don't maintain my blog anymore but for any static sites that I'll ever work will definitely make use of it. It's one of the best solutions out there.

Pros

Netlify might my life ridiculously easy when it came to publishing my personal blog. When you're creating static sites then you're bound to hear about Netlify and rightly so. The integration with Github is seamless with the webhooks. Every changed pushed ended up on the live site and I never had to worry about a thing.

Cons

The only issue I had was with the UI. At times it could be confusing but once you get into the swing of things it becomes a breeze.
